Precinct Research
This section was developed to help you determine if you will need to conduct a Local Liquor option Election. The section is divided into the following sections:
Current Liquor Status - This section will help you determine the current liquor status of a precinct or a particular location within a precinct. Remember: The results of a local liquor option election are tied to the ground where the election was held regardless of the current precinct boundaries. That makes researching the the status a critical step.
An "Inconsistent Status" - This section will help you understand the impact "Inconsistent Status" can have on a particular precinct. This is a must read to determine how the re-drawing of precinct lines can affect the "wet" or "dry" status of a precinct.
Annexation - The annexation of township land into Municipal Corporations creates a different set of circumstances that must be addressed to ascertain the current liquor status. In the case of annexations, the most recent local option affecting the lands annexed DOES NOT always determine the current liquor status. be sure to read this section to learn more about annexation and Local Liquor Options.
Precinct Research - Just because a local option is approved does not mean the State of Ohio will issue a liquor permit. Liquor permits in Ohio are issued on a QUOTA SYSTEM that is based on population. Petitioners should review the permit quota for their area before placing a local option on the ballot to be sure they will ultimately benefit from all their hard work. Please review your Local Option History to better understand how the Quota System may impact your ability to secure a lique permit.
